Honda India, a subsidiary of Honda Motors (Japan based) has launched a new base version of its most popular sedan model Honda City, the E variant which was discontinued by the company after launching its premium hatchback Honda Jazz in India. Honda Jazz and the base (E) variant of Honda City come in the same price range, so after launching the Honda Jazz model company decided to discontinue this base variant but now as the Honda Jazz model is not doing as per the expectations the company has decided to again launch this variant in the country.

As per the news reports the new Honda City E variant is priced at Rs. 7.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore). The Honda City model now has four variants in India including Honda City EMT, Honda City SMT, Honda City VMT and Honda City VAT model. The top variants of Honda City costs about Rs. 9.58 lakh. The new Honda City base variant offers a wider choice to corporate customers of the company for their car purchase.

Honda City, is one of the most popular as well as best selling sedan among all products in company's portfolio in India. The sales of Honda City model in Indian market left behind its sales figures in Thailand market which is used to be Honda’s best market for its Honda City model. Honda Siel Cars India managed to sell 54,634 units of its Honda City model between the period of November 2008 to December 2009. The third generation Honda City model was launched in India in year 2009 and it has become quite popular among Indian buyers.
