Car Washing

Environmental pollution, not to mention fallout from birds, will take its toll on your car's finish. The best way to protect the finish is to keep it clean. This is especially true during the winter months in the snow belt where salt is used to keep the roads clear. While today's cars have very durable finishes, they are susceptible to prolonged exposure to corrosives. There are new cars sitting in a dealers lot for two or three months that had to be refinished because the paint became etched from bird droppings.

If you have retractable headlights, make sure you clean them regularly. They are often overlooked when having your car washed.

A car wash will keep your car clean with a minimum of time and effort. The brushes they use are safer on a car's finish than they used to be and many are brushless. don't ask for wax at car washes because it may coat the windshield and cause the wipers to streak, but hand-wax your car twice a year. If you decide to wash the car yourself, use products that are safe for car finishes.

How to Take care of your Car

How to take care of your used car

Treatment of your car will depend on the condition of the paint and clearcoat. So we can not give any excact answer for excactly what you have to do, without seeing the vehicle. But we have put together the most important principles, based on experience, so that you can obtain a result you have not been able to achieve before. The steps belowe is the same we use when we treat exhibition cars and cars on behalf of the owners.
The first thing you should do is to take a inspection of the paint condition and find out how much you are willing to do to improve it. To evaluate the paint condition you should first de-grease/de-wax the paint with a waterbased product and then wash it with Glare Ultra Wash, then you should look for:
1. Severe damage to the clearcoat as a consequence of too much sun or chemical acids (oxydation).
2. Scratches in the clearcoat (you can test by wetting your finger and take it over the scratch – if it disappears in wet condition there is a good chance they will disappear after rubbing/polish).
To these kind of problems we recommend to use a water based rubbing compound as the Glare Knock Out.

When you have improved the things you found in steps 1 and 2 you are ready to polish your car. Remember that steps 1 and 2 is to further improve the final result, you may polish your car without steps 1 and 2 but will not obtain the same results. By going direct to polish you will in a way “frame in” the scratches that is not earlier removed – but you will get a shiny result even the scratches are still there.
So let us go through the different stages in the polish process:
1. After the de-wax/de-greaser and washing, you will use the Glare Micro Finish to clean the paint and make the paint ready for the Glare bonding process. Also the Micro Finish will take out scratches. You can use either a orbital or a normal buffet for this step.
2. If you look at the paint in good light conditions as direct sunlight, you will often see sircular scratches called swirls. These swirls are tiny scratches in your clearcoat and is often caused by using wrong tools during polish and wash – or by washing your vehicle in a machinewash. The “good” thing about these scratches is that they can be removed almost to 100% by using the Glare Spider.
3. The final step is the Professional Polish and this is the product that gives you the shine and also seals your paint. This product should be buffed into the paint until it almost disappears. You can use either a Orbital or a normal buffer for this final step.
It is very important that you firmly buff off all remains of product between the different steps. For this purpose we recommend to use a suited microfiber towel that is able to pick up the remainings of the different products.
When it comes to treat and care of the car after the polish, the most important thing is to wash it frequently. Use a gentle wash that is not too hard on either the polish or the coat itselves – there are wash products on the market that are way to strong (they remove the dirt, but at the same time destroy both your polish and paint). By using the Glare Wash you are ensured a gentle but yet a strong wash, it has ingredients that makes it stay wet longer and it contains Glassplexin. The glassplexin in the soap is the same ingredient as in the polish and will strengthen the polish every time you wash the vehicle – and it will get back the shine in your polish.
It is increadible how great results you can get on a used car by using the right products. We have heard many people say things as: “It is even better now than when it was new”, “Have you re-painted it?”, “Is it really the same car?”. The most important thing is that you buy the right products and use them in the right way. Do not just buy the cheapest products you find – because they will do nothing good to your car – remember that a normal wax product only will protect your car for some weeks – and who wants to polish once a month?
