accord crosstour

The all-new Honda Accord Crosstour makes its 2010 debut as a crossover hatchback wagon version of the Accord midsize sedan, but offers more interior room (particularly in the back), increased ground clearance, a quieter ride and all-wheel drive capability.

Available in EX and EX-L trim levels, one of the Crosstour’s strengths is V-6 performance, featuring a 271-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. EPA estimated fuel economy ratings range between 17-18 mpg in the city and 25-27 mpg on the highway.

Facing competition from the Subaru Outback and Toyota Venza in the crossover wagon segment, the 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour can be had in front- or all-wheel-drive configurations and sits on standard 17-inch or available 18-inch wheels. The front grille is much larger than that of the Accord sedan and dual tailpipes are standard. The five-seat Crosstour’s interior styling and ergonomics is reminiscent of the Accord sedan. EX models feature power front seats, steering wheel-mounted controls, a sunroof, foglights, power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and and a seven-speaker stereo system with a six-CD changer.

EX-L models add heated leather seats, a stereo upgrade, MP3 compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity, driver seat memory functions and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The only available option is a voice-activated navigation system with a backup camera. The second row offers 37.4 inches of legroom. For added cargo room, the 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour features a 60/40-split backseat and large storage box under the load floor, which is ideal for hiding valuables so they are not in plain sight of passersby. The Crosstour offers 25.7 cubic feet of room behind the rear seats and maximum cargo capacity is 51.3 cubic feet with rear seats folded.

The 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour offers many standard safety features, including front side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic stability control.

A larger version of the Accord sedan, the brand-new 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour crossover hatchback wagon offers V-6 performance with front- or all-wheel-drive capability and competitive fuel economy.

honda accord gearbox

Gearbox failure with the Honda Accord is a widespread problem in models made from the early 2000s. The 2003 Honda Accord appears to be the worst year for gearbox failure.

Many of the gearbox failure complaints are caused by the torque converter failing - the engine will rev up but the car won't shift into gear or move. In some reports, the torque converter burned up the gearbox fluid which ruined the gearbox.

Currently there is no recall for the gearbox defect, because it is not a safety issue (according to the NHTSA). So far, a class action lawsuit has not been filed.

Cars are getting ever more complicated and sophisticated, which is great until the gearbox goes wrong! If your Accord gearbox has gone we're ready to deal with almost anything, is your gearbox broken?

How to Change Automatic Gearbox Fluid in a Honda Accord

The Honda Accord is popular mid-size car produced since 1976 by the Japanese automaker. Regular maintenance is essential on any car, including the reliable Accord. This includes replacing your gearbox fluid every 90,000 miles or every 72 months, whichever comes first. Honda recommends you use to use only genuine Honda ATF-Z1 fluid, using any other fluid will break your gearbox. Gearbox repairs are very expensive.

Drive the accord for 15 to 20 minutes to bring the car to a normal operating temperature. Raise the vehicle with ramps or a floor jack. Support it securely with jack stands.

Place a large drain pan on the ground beneath the gearbox. Find the drain plug on the bottom of the gearbox and remove it with a ratchet.

Allow the fluid to drain out until it stops. Install the drain plug with a new washer. In Honda Accords from 1990 to 2000, tighten the drain plug to 36 foot pounds with a torque wrench. In Accords from 1984 to 1989, tighten the plug to 29 foot pounds.

Refill the gearbox only genuine Honda ATF-Z1 fluid. Measure the amount of fluid that drained from the gearbox and put the same amount of new fluid into the gearbox using a funnel. Take care not to overfill the gearbox, as this can cause damage.

Return the Accord to level ground. Start the engine and allow it to idle for a minute or two. Move the gear selector through all the gears, ending in the "Park" position.

Check the automatic gearbox fluid level. Add enough fluid to bring the level to 1/8 inch below the "Add" mark on the dipstick.

Let the engine run for 15 to 20 minutes to allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Check the fluid level again. The fluid level should be within the "Hot" range on the dipstick. If it isn't, add fluid as needed. If the fluid level is correct, replace the dipstick and close the hood.

Method for cleaning an Accord gearbox

A method of cleaning the gearbox system of a vehicle includes the steps of starting an engine of the vehicle and bringing it to normal operating temperature. A predetermined amount of a gearbox cleaner is charged into the gearbox and the vehicle is driven for a predetermined distance. The gears are changed at preselected times while driving so that all gears of the gearbox are used equally. The engine is then shut down and gearbox fluid is purged from the gearbox fluid pan by submerging a trailing end of a first hose into the gearbox fluid. A leading end of the first hose is connected into fluid communication with an inlet of a remote charging tank and an outlet of the remote charging tank is connected through a switch to a source of negative pressure. The switch is set to cause the gearbox fluid to flow into a gearbox fluid waste tank disposed between the outlet and the source of negative pressure. The trailing end of the first hose is then removed from the gearbox fluid pan and a gearbox cooling line is disconnected from a preselected port of the radiator. The trailing end of the first hose is placed into fluid communication with the gearbox cooling line at the preselected port while maintaining the leading end of the first hose in fluid communication with the inlet of the remote charging tank. Gearbox fluid is vacuumed from the gearbox cooling line and the gearbox cooling line is reattached so that all gearbox fluid is removed from the gearbox cooling lines and most of the gearbox fluid is removed from the torque converter.

honda accord brakes

Some real examples of honda accord brakes problem:

92 honda accord brake problems

I have a 1992 honda accord. After the master cylinder was changed the problems started. I will drive for 2-5 miles and the brakes pressurize on their own and stop the car. I had the power brake booster changed as recommended by several people on here. This didnt fix the problem!! I need help!!!

1992 Honda Accord - Brake Problems

My Father-in-law has a 1992 Honda Accord EX. After about 10-20 minutes of driving the brakes pressurize and stop the car on their own. The pads and master cylinder were changed within the last year. The Brakes were bled properly also. Could it be the ABS pump? Modulator? Brake booster?

used honda accord

The Accord was most recently redesigned for the 2008 model year. In that initial year, Honda rated the optional V6 at a slightly lower (268 hp) output. Only minimal changes have occurred since.

Many other used Honda Accords you'll encounter will be part of the vehicle's seventh generation, which was sold for the 2003-'07 model years. As with the current model, it was available as a midsize coupe or sedan. Selecting a used Accord from this generation should be rather straightforward. Initially, there were three trim levels: DX, LX and EX. The DX was pretty frugal with features, so the better choice will be the LX or EX. Side and side-curtain airbags were typically optional on all trim levels.

Under the hood was a 160-hp 2.4-liter inline-4 or a 240-hp, 3.0-liter V6 engine. Four-cylinder engines could be had with either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual was available on the V6-powered EX Coupe.

In 2005, Honda introduced the Accord Hybrid. This model's V6 gasoline/electric powertrain produced 255 hp and, in theory, the best fuel economy of the lineup. In real-world use, however, the car's fuel economy was disappointing and people balked at its higher price. Very few Accord Hybrids were sold.

The most significant changes of this generation occurred in 2006 when the Accord received freshened exterior styling and more power for both engines. Stability control also debuted this year, as did minor modifications to trim level organization. In reviews at the time, we praised the car for its roomy and stylish interior, tight build quality, smooth ride and good crash test scores. Downsides included tepid handling and mediocre brakes. All said, however, this Accord was an excellent choice for a family sedan or midsize coupe.

The sixth-generation Honda Accord is also very popular in the used car market. Available from 1998-2002, this model came in coupe or sedan body styles and had either four-cylinder or V6 power. In a nine-car comparison test conducted by our Edmunds.com editors, this car finished in 2nd place. We noted that the car was not exactly entertaining to drive but was very user-friendly and competent in all areas. Buyers should feel relatively free to look at models throughout this generation as Honda didn't make any drastic changes, though cars built after 2000 have expanded safety features.

Accords built from 1994 to 1997 should make for a smart choice for those on a budget. This model boasted the typical Accord attributes and, as a used car, should provide better than average reliability, assuming it's been properly maintained by previous owners. This generation marked the first time that Honda used its VTEC variable valve timing system. A VTEC-equipped four-cylinder engine came with the EX trim level. Accord models from 1995 and upward also had a V6 available. This generation was also the last for the rare Accord wagon.

Consumers interested in a Honda Accord but limited to a smaller budget could also check out the fourth-generation Accord, which was available starting in 1990. As there is little price difference between these cars at this point, 1992 or '93 EX or SE models are probably your best choices.

The used honda accord is cheaper than the new latest models and gives the luxury of honda accord. The usage, insurances and the parts if any changed should be checked before buying any used honda accord.

honda accord review

Few vehicles over the past three decades have garnered as much respect in America as the Honda Accord. It hasn't achieved this by being sporty, glamorous or sexy. Instead, it has, for every year, offered what most Americans want out of their daily transportation. Take an Accord for a test-drive, and you'll find it comfortable, roomy, intelligently engineered and easy to drive. Research it, and you'll find it backed by a solid reputation for reliability, a strong resale value and an emphasis on safety.

It is true that competing sedans or coupes hold certain advantages over the Accord. Some are faster, others are more prestigious or less expensive. What's special about the Honda Accord, though, is its completeness. It scores well in all of the categories that people expect a family-oriented sedan or coupe to cover, not just a few. When examined from a holistic standpoint, it's easy to see why this Honda car has become an automotive icon and one of our editors' top recommendations.

Current Honda Accord

The current Accord is bigger than previous models and boasts better engine performance without any loss of fuel efficiency. It's available as a midsize coupe or sedan and in a variety of trim levels to suit almost any buyer's needs. Entry-level LX models have the basic necessities while top-line EX-L models feature items like leather upholstery, Bluetooth and an optional navigation system. All models come with a full array of safety equipment, including side curtain airbags and stability control.

As has been the case with past Accords, the newest model comes with either a four-cylinder or V6 engine. The base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine makes 177 horsepower; an upgraded version of this engine available on the EX trim makes 190 hp. For more power, a 271-hp, 3.5-liter V6 is available. The four-cylinder engine has a five-speed manual transmission as standard and a five-speed automatic as optional. The V6 typically comes with a five-speed automatic, though V6-equipped coupes are available with a six-speed manual.

In reviews, we've found the latest Honda Accord continues to be a satisfying family sedan or midsize coupe, despite the fact that many rivals have caught up in recent years. The interior is very roomy and high in quality, though some might take issue with the car's multitude of buttons on the dash. Compared to some Accords of the past, the latest model is less sporty to drive, and it also has elevated road noise and mediocre brakes. Nonetheless, it still offers the usual Accord strengths of crashworthiness, reliability and comfort.

honda accord vti

Having set hearts aflutter in the so-called mid-size luxury segment with its City, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd now moves a cog higher to enter the rarified territory of the D-segment cars with its Accord, a name tag which personifies luxury and class but without sacrificing on performance.

Adil Jal Darukhanawala gets behind the wheel of the automatic transmission-ed Accord Vti to assess if it cuts the mustard in this intermediate luxury class.

Almost a decade and a half since it was first mooted for production in India, the classy Honda Accord is finally out and available in dealer showrooms. The difference this time round is that it isn't a Telco-Honda JV bringing out the car as was planned in the late 1980s - early 1990s but Honda Siel Cars India Ltd, in which the Japanese giant has the majority stake holding.

The second of the D-segment cars to be ushered into the country (after the C-class range from Mercedes-Benz), the Accord for India is the larger version of the car which Honda makes in three sizes for the US market, Japan and Europe and Asia. The Asian market version is similar in size and proportion to its US counterpart but with fewer equipment and trim options and different - read that as less powerful - engine versions.

The Accord nameplate, along with the Civic range, is one of the strongest and most respected brand names in Honda's car line-up, having distinguished itself all over the world since the very first Accord appeared on the automotive firmament in May 1976. What we have here in India is the sixth generation Accord which made its debut in late 1997 and continues to be the car in production in the US and also in certain south east Asian countries like Thailand. Of course it received a few updates late last year and it is this updated car which Honda Siel has ushered into India.

honda accord v6

Honda Siel Cars India, leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, launched its latest version of flagship sedan Honda Accord 3.5L V6, enhancing the exterior styling of the car, with an Electric Sunroof and additional luxury features. The introduction of Sunroof will give Accord an impressive panoramic feeling by making it look brighter and larger. The Sunroof introduction was found to be the most desirable feature in Accord V6 based on the customer’s feedback. The Accord V6 will also feature Ambient Light and Footlight which accentuate the style and enhance visibility during darkness allowing higher visibility to see the controls. The car will also be equipped with 2 sets of Keyless entry for the additional convenience to the customers. The Footlight and 2 sets of Keyless entry have also been introduced in the Honda Accord 2.4L MT/ AT variants.

In addition, Honda Accord 3.5L V6 and Honda Accord 2.4L now have a provision for Mobile phone with Bluetooth interface. Honda Accord V6 is the flagship model of Honda Siel Cars India in the Indian market and is powered by an expanded range of innovative technologies designed for more power and performance making it the most powerful car from the Honda stable in India. Accord's V6 3.5-liter i-VTEC engine with 275 PS makes it the most powerful Accord ever built and provides driving performance at par with luxury vehicles from higher segments.

The V6 3.5-liter i-VTEC engine features an advanced Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system that switches between six-, four-, and three-cylinder combustion depending on the driving conditions and thereby delivering maximum power of 275 PS during six cylinder operation and impressive fuel economy in VCM mode while cruising. To achieve the same quietness and smoothness, as when running on all six cylinders, new Active Control Engine Mounts (ACM) and Active Noise Control (ANC) systems have been designed to complement the VCM technology. The complete Accord range will be available at the Ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs. 18,52,000 for 2.4L MT, Rs.19,27,000 for 2.4L AT and Rs 26,15,000 for 3.5L V6.

2008 Honda Accord

With the 2008 Accord, Honda managed innovation without retracting from the many aspects that had earned the Accord its reputation. This is no small feat. Honda has set the bar incredibly high, and in a normal year, it’s a challenge just to maintain the status quo. However, this was anything but a normal year. This was the launch of the Accord’s eighth, and still current, generation. The new Accord delivered, and it set new standards in the very competitive mid-size family car segment.

The 2008 Honda Accord is a mid-size family car available as both a coupe and the very popular sedan. At the standard/luxury tier, the sedan is available at the LX and LX-P trim levels while the coupe is available with the LX-S package only. At the executive level, both body styles come in either the EX or EX-L trim.

The base LX provides 16-inch steel wheels, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel, full power accessories, cruise control, keyless entry, fold-down rear seats, a six-speaker audio system with a CD/MP3 player, and an auxiliary audio jack. The sedan’s LX-P augments the LX trim with 16-inch alloy wheels, a power driver seat, and front automatic up-down windows. The coupe’s LX-S is the LX-P trim with an in-dash six-CD changer but without the power driver seat and front passenger-side automatic up-down window.

On the sedan, the EX trim includes everything in the LX-P equipment package, and on the coupe, it includes everything in the LX-S. In addition, the EX provides 17-inch wheels and a sunroof to both body styles. The sedan also gets the in-dash six-CD changer, while the coupe receives a premium stereo system and subwoofer.

The EX-L trim provides luxury items such as leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, auto-on headlights and satellite radio. The EX-L coupe also gets the power drive seat while the EX-L sedan includes the premium stereo system. The only option for the 2008 Honda Accord is a navigation system with voice-activated controls and Bluetooth available with the EX-L trim.

2000 Honda Accord

Since 1976, the Accord has been a household name. By the turn of the century, the 2000 Honda Accord, midway during the car’s sixth generation, was an industry standard. There are great reasons why so many years after its introduction, the 2000 Honda Accord remained a top-selling used car. However, at the decade mark the vehicle is beginning to show its age.

Consumers in the market for a used Accord will likely want to focus their attention on the seventh (2003-2007) and eighth (2008-present) generations. Nevertheless, the 2000 Honda Accord includes most modern safety features, so if you find one with limited mileage, then it is still worthy of your consideration. Consumers should also be aware that there are stark differences between the American, European and Japanese versions of the car. The information presented here concerns the North American editions.

The 2000 Honda Accord is available in both coupe and sedan body styles. Prior to the sixth generation, Accord coupes were essentially 2-door sedans. However, the coupes available in this generation and beyond were substantially different from the sedans, and they possessed many exclusive features. These exclusive features included special wheels, rear taillights, front fascia and other body panels.

Honda offered the 2000 sedan in the DX, LX, EX and EX V6 trim levels, and they offered the 2000 coupe in the LX, EX and EX-V6 trims. Despite being a “base” package, the DX was nicely equipped. It included standard features such as air-conditioning and a basic CD audio system. Under the hood, the DX included the standard 2.3L I4, which produces 135 horsepower. The LX and EX models included the 2.3L I4 VTEC that produce 150 horsepower. The 5-speed manual transmission was standard, but there was an optional 4-speed automatic. The V6 models included the 3.0L SOHC VTEC that generates 200 horsepower.

2003 Honda Accord

With the 2003 Accord, Honda launched the seventh generation of this beloved vehicle line to critical acclaim. However, despite the positive critical reception, many consumers bemoaned features that were missing from the redesign. These missing features were aspects that had helped cement the Accord as a segment leader. Honda would rectify these oversights with the release of the 2004 model, which is the reason why the 2004 Honda Accord is so popular. Nevertheless, the 2003 Honda Accord is an excellent used car that should have particular appeal to bargain hunters.

Available in both coupe and sedan body styles, the increase in size is what distinguishes the 2003 Honda Accord most from the 2002 model. This was the largest that the car had ever been, and the North American edition was substantially different than the smaller version sold in Japan.

The 2003 Accord was available in the base-level DX trim, LX, LX-V6, EX and EX-V6. Customers should be aware that the one downside to the seventh-gen Accords is that the car’s suspension does not quite live up to the additional power of the V6 model. However, a special edition V6 coupe available included a sports-tuned suspension and a six-speed manual transmission rather than the standard five-speed.

The price difference between the DX and LX trims has dissipated as a used car, so consumers may want to focus on the LX for the additional amenities. The DX includes air-conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, power locks, power windows and a basic CD stereo. The LX includes everything in the DX trim plus an upgraded audio system, power mirrors and some other interior features and visual cues. There is still a slight premium for EX models, which include leather upholstery, advanced climate control and satellite radio. The V6 variants of the trims include extras like 17-inch wheels and luxury amenities.

1990 Honda Accord

The 1990 Honda Accord was both impressive and innovative in its day. However, those innovations are now outdated and a lack of modern safety features make for a dangerous drive from today’s perspective. Consumers shopping for a used car should turn their attention the late-1990s model Accords at the very least. There is not a great deal of savings to be had buying early 1990s as opposed to late 1990s. Even if one were to find a 1990 Honda Accord preserved in a museum the lack of safety features would be a serious concern.

The 1990 Honda Accord launched the fourth vehicle generation, and this model marks the shift from compact to mid-size vehicle. This change in size and the impetus behind innovations and added amenities was the tremendous success the Ford Taurus was experiencing in the North American market. In retrospect, Honda did not simply play catch up, they innovated a competitor that would become an industry standard.

Another notable aspect of this fourth-generation Accord was the significant engine design changes that Honda made. All of the North American models included an all-new all-aluminum 2.2-liter 16-valve electronically fuel injected engine. In addition, all Accords sold with the optional automatic transmission included an electronically controlled rear engine mount that reduced low frequency vibration and noise.

The 1990 Honda Accord also marks the introduction of the DX, LX and EX trim levels that are still used on Accord models today. These were available on the sedan and coupe body styles. The DX and LX models included a 4-cylinder engine that generates 125 horsepower, while the EX boasts a 130 horsepower version.

The DX was an economy-focused base level that included almost no amenities and for which air-conditioning was a dealer-installed option. The LX trim level included standard amenities such as air-conditioning and power accessories. The EX trim added leather upholstery and upscale interior accents.

2004 Honda Accord

More than five years since rolling off assembly lines, the 2004 Honda Accord remains one of the best-selling used automobiles in North America. The reason for this is simple. The 2004 Honda Accord is an amazing mid-size family sedan that has a tremendous amount of value as a used car. With the 2003 model, Honda launched the all-new, critically acclaimed seventh generation. The 2004 Honda Accord was a refinement of that success.

With the 2004 Honda Accord, the used car buyer gets a smooth ride and a quiet cabin constructed with high build quality and a material quality that is above the price point. The buyer also gets the Accord’s exemplary reputation for durability, reliability and safety. The only standout negative is the vehicle’s handling. Most, especially those with a four-cylinder engine, will find it perfectly adequate. Unfortunately, this same suspension is included on Accords with the V6. The extra power exposes some warts on the suspension.

The 2004 Honda Accord is available in both sedan and coupe body styles in the LX, EX and EX-L trim levels. At this point, there’s not much price difference between the three trim levels, and consumers may want to target the EX and EX-L because this is the year Honda added side curtain airbags to those trims. The EX-L package adds amenities such as dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated seats, and satellite radio. There was also a navigation system available as an option on the EX-L. However, this appears to be a rare find among used EX-Ls.

There was also a Value Package trim available this model year, and while it came in below the standard LX, it is a deluxe base package. This trim includes air-conditioning, keyless entry, cruise control, power windows and locks, and a CD stereo. The LX adds to that with power mirrors, an upgraded stereo system, and some additional interior features. All of these features are included in the EX and EX-L.

2007 Honda Accord

The 2007 Honda Accord is an exciting option for the consumer shopping the used car market. It boasts distinguished build quality, a spacious and stylish interior, fluid ride quality, superb reliability and exemplary safety. On the con side, it lacks some of the standard features included with today’s family sedans. However, in light of the price, most used car shoppers can live with this trade-off. Launched with the 2003 model year in North America, the Accord’s seventh generation continued the tradition of being a standard by which we measure mid-size family cars. With the 2007 Accord, Honda ended this celebrated generation with a bang. The North American Accord was now larger than it had ever been, and it packed in amenities that gave us a preview of what was to be in the all-new Accord that would be arriving the following year.

Available as both a mid-size coupe and sedan, the 2007 Honda Accord was available in LX, EX and EX-L trims. Those three trims where also available with the larger V6 engine as the LX V6, EX V6 and EX-L V6. There was also a Value Package and Special Edition (SE) available. The entry-level Value Package provided a deluxe base package that included air-conditioning, power windows and locks, cruise control, keyless entry and a CD stereo.

The “standard” LX trim level added interior features and styling cues, power mirrors, and an upgraded audio system. The SE was primarily an LX with 16-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, an in-dash six-CD changer, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The V6-equipped LX included 17-inch wheels, heated mirrors, a power driver seat and a moonroof.

That were only minor differences between the EX and LX trim levels this model year, and the prices reflected that. The big jump occurred when one moved up to the EX-L package, which included leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a satellite radio and an optional navigation system. The V6-powered EX-L got every feature the Accord had to offer except the optional navigation system. In addition, it included a HomeLink transmitter and power passenger seat.

1994 Honda Accord

The 1994 Honda Accord, Motor Trend’s Import Car of the Year for 1994, marks the beginning of the Accord’s fifth vehicle generation (1994-1997). This generation is significant for the role it played in transitioning the Accord from compact to mid-size car. Moreover, it is notable for being the last generation where Japanese and North American Accords were identical.

The new size was less popular in Japan because in its new class, the car no longer earned the buyer a substantial tax break. This is the reason why after this point, the North American Accords were growing while the Japanese alternatives were shrinking. Despite the growth of the sedans, the 1994 Honda Accord coupe remained compact. They were essentially 2-door compact versions of the mid-size sedans. This was also the last year that Honda offered the Accord wagon in North America.

In the United States, the 1994 Honda Accord was available in the base level DX, the standard or luxury level LX and the executive level EX. All models included the 5-speed manual transmission, but a 4-speed automatic with the “Grade-Logic” shift feature was available. The 1994 Honda Accord is also notable for its ergonomic interior and safety features that were innovative at the time, such as airbags and reinforced side-impact beams.

In this generation of the Accord, the DX and LX model included the same engine, a non-VTEC 2.2-liter 4-cylinder motor that produces 130 horsepower. The DX was also much sparser than it would come be in the following generations. It included air-conditioning and a basic stock audio system. The EX included a VTEC version of the 2.2-liter 4-cylinder that produces 145 horsepower. It also included 15-inch alloy wheels, antilock brakes, which were optional on the LX, 4-wheel disc brakes and a rear stabilizer bar. Beginning in 1994, Honda shifted all of the leather accessories from the EX to the new EX-L package.

Honda Accord Hybrid

The Honda Accord Hybrid was a Hybrid vehicle version of the North American Honda Accord, offered in model years 2005 through 2007. It was the company's third hybrid when the 2005 model was introduced in late 2004, following the Honda Insight and Honda Civic Hybrid. The Accord Hybrid was priced US$3,000 higher than the EX V6 model Accord, and retained substantially the same trim and feature levels (although the 2005 model did not include the power sunroof). Honda positioned the Accord Hybrid at the top of its (non-Acura) lineup.

While this new vehicle shared the same displacement as the regular seventh generation Accord V6 powerplant, the engine in the Hybrid was derived from the 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan and has the ability to shut off 3 of the 6 cylinders under certain conditions for better fuel economy (a technology that Honda callsVariable Cylinder Management (VCM)). The new engine features iVTEC technology and drives a new compact transmission, developed to allow the inclusion of the electric motor sandwiched between the transversely-mounted engine and automatic transmission. Power of the gas engine is up from 240 to 255 hp (179 to 190 kW) and torque rose from 212 to 265 ft·lbf (287 to 315 N·m). However, there was no four-cylinder on this car. The vehicle reaches 60 mph in 6.7 seconds.

Fuel economy was originally estimated at 29 mpg-US (8.1 L/100 km; 35 mpg-imp) city and 37 mpg-US (6.4 L/100 km; 44 mpg-imp) highway, but was later changed to 25 mpg-US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg-imp) city, 34 mpg-US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg-imp) highway, after Honda's addition of standard sunroof and spare tire (not included on the 2005 model) bumped the car to a higher weight class for United States Environmental Protection Agency‎ mileage testing. The 2006 model has also been rated an AT-PZEV vehicle. AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology-Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) is an emissions standard created by the California Air Resources Board. In 2007, the EPA estimates were changed yet again to 28 mpg-US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg-imp) city and 35 mpg-US (6.7 L/100 km; 42 mpg-imp) highway. Canadian official 2007 Fuel Consumption Rating is 8.2 L/100 km city and 6.1 L/100 km highway.

Honda put the emphasis on performance and targeted high-end buyers. Unlike traditional hybrid designs, the new Accord hybrid uses a more powerful engine than its non-hybrid counterpart. Together with the Integrated Motor Assist, the hybrid version provided slightly higher performance than the conventional V6-engined Accord. However, the marketplace did not embrace the Accord Hybrid, and 2007 was the final model year available.

The 2005 Accord Hybrid Sedan is also 4 inches (102 mm) longer than the 2005 Accord Sedan. The 2005 Accord Hybrid Sedan comes in four colors: Graphite Pearl, Desert Mist Metallic, Silver Frost Metallic, and Taffeta White. For 2006, the Accord Hybrid comes standard with Vehicle Stability Assist, and like the conventional US-spec Accord, received a minor exterior facelift. Accord Hybrids from model year 2006 and up can be identified by the amber rear turn signals whereas their fully gasoline counterparts have red rear turn signals.

According to road tests conducted by Consumer Reports, the V6 Accord Hybrid averages 2 MPG better than the regular V6 Accord and 1 MPG better than the 4-cylinder Accord.

Honda has announced that there will be no hybrid version of the next generation (2008 model year) Accord, as the mid-size Honda FCX Clarity debuted at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. The FCX Clarity debuted as a 2009 model. The Accord hybrid sold 25,000 since 2004, and 6,100 of the 2007 model.
